SafetyNet prevents the user from visiting an unsafe website.  Google is a powerful tool, and probably the best search engine for mobile browsers.  However, Google indexes every site, including sites that SafetyNet Blocks. When you perform a Google Search, you are seeing content that is hosted on Google's servers, not the servers that originaly hosted the content.  If the user has disabled "safe searching", there is the potential that inappropriate sites may be included in search results.  We will display the search results that Google provides, even if they point to inappropriate servers.  We do prevent the user from clicking on these sites and visiting these hosts, however.

SafetyNet does not block words or images. It just blocks websites.  At FortiPhone, we had to balance the potential of a user viewing thumbnails of inappropriate content against the value of a fully functional search engine.  As not even Google has the ability to analyze an image to identify inappropriate content, we solve the problem by blacklisting sites that typically host that material.

If the risk of cached images and content on Google or any other search engine is unacceptable to you, we suggest that you use SafetyNet's blacklist feature to blacklist Google or any other search engine (Bing and Yahoo function similarly to Google.)
